Destination Battlefords is bidding a fond farewell to its chair Russ Brown.
Brown is retiring within a couple of weeks, and board members at the Destination Battlefords AGM on Tuesday paid tribute to Brown’s efforts to promote regional tourism in the area.
Executive director Ryan Bater, who is also Mayor of North Battleford, noted that he had worked alongside Brown in the old days of the Battlefords Regional Economic Development Authority, and then again during his time with tourism. He had been with the tourism board in one capacity or another since the 1990s.
Bater called Brown instrumental in helping develop the first ever Battlefords Visitor Guide in 2020. This would have been its 20th year but unfortunately it wasn’t printed due to the pandemic.
Brown was also instrumental in creating the Destination Marketing program and also chaired the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling Meridian Canadian Open.
“Russ has contributed a lot to this organization,” said Bater.
At the meeting Tuesday the board presented Brown with a gift — a limited edition Allen Sapp print that is signed by Sapp, which was entitled “Nothing Much to Do.”
