Evacuees are returning home to northern Saskatchewan, and a matching gift campaign has been launched to meet their immediate food needs when they get back.

Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) and Kitsaki Management Limited Partnership (Kitsaki) are launching the campaign. According to a news release Monday, PotashCorp and Kitsaki will each match every dollar donated, up to $50,000 each, until July 31. The goal is to provide 5,000 food hampers for distribution across the North.

For PotashCorp, the $50,000 is part of a previously-announced $100,000 towards relief efforts.

As well Athabasca Catering supplier, Pratt’s Wholesale, is contributing expertise and labour for shipment of food for the hampers. Those wishing to donate can visit the website www.PotashCorpProvides.com.

“PotashCorp is committed to having a positive impact on local food security,” said Denita Stann, VP Investor and Public Relations, in a statement.

“We recognize families will have an immediate need for food when they return home. We hope that this matching gift campaign will help our neighbors and encourage others in our community to donate.”

“We operate across the North, and know that people are going to need short-term help to get re-established,” said Kitsaki CEO Russell Roberts in a statement.

“Not only are we pleased to make this $50,000 contribution from our group of companies to encourage others to help, we are very proud to participate with our companies, like Northern Resource Trucking and Athabasca Catering, to help collect and transport food to northern communities.”
