A 24-year-old man was sent to hospital in critical condition following a shooting Saturday morning in North Battleford.

According to a news release from the RCMP, the shooting happened prior to 10 a.m. May 25 at a residence on the 1700 block of 104th Street.

The RCMP report that based on preliminary information, the suspect or suspects drove up to the scene in a vehicle, fired several rounds at the residence or the victim, and then fled the scene in the same vehicle. Police report the victim is from the North Battleford area but did not reside at that location of the incident.

Police say that when they arrived at the scene the male victim was located suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to Battlefords Union Hospital.

Later that day RCMP reported the shooting victim had been transferred to Saskatoon for further treatment. RCMP said he was anticipated to be undergoing additional surgery later in the day or evening.

Sunday afternoon police reported the victim was conscious and speaking to investigators, but was expected to require more medical procedures to deal with his injuries.

Members of the RCMP were on the scene and remained there most of the day interviewing numerous witnesses from the scene and in the neighbourhood. The witness interviews continued throughout the day and a search warrant was executed.

Traffic was restricted at that portion of 104th Street that intersected with 18th Avenue, with the intersection cordoned off by yellow police crime-scene tape.

By Sunday, that intersection was once again open to traffic though police tape was still seen at the residence where the incident took place. The scene was released later Sunday.
