Drugs and firearms seized, five arrested

Battlefords RCMP have seized a firearm and a quantity of drugs after apprending five suspects following a vehicle theft.

On Saturday, at approximately 1:50 a.m., Battlefords RCMP responded to a complaint of two vehicles having been stolen from Edam, and the vehicles were being driven towards the Battlefords detachment area.

Meota COPP / Rural Crime Watch members were alerted to this incident by Edam community members and were able to provide RCMP with vehicle descriptions and a proper direction of travel.

Turtleford RCMP had also responded to this complaint and located the stolen vehicles that had become stuck in a farm field south of Whitkow.

Battlefords RCMP arrived on scene shortly thereafter.

Three adult males and one adult female were arrested at the scene where the two stolen trucks were located.

A fifth suspect fled the scene on foot. RCMP Police Dog Service attended the scene and was able to establish a track. The fifth suspect was taken into custody and was confirmed to be an adult male. Initial investigation resulted in the seizure of a firearm and a quantity of drugs.

This investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

A further media release will be forthcoming once formal charges are laid.
