Nominations are now open for the 2012 municipal election in the Battlefords.
The call for nominations was officially issued Aug. 31 in North Battleford, and potential candidates for mayor and for North Battleford city council are now able to file their nomination papers at City Hall between now and Sept. 19 during business hours.
Nominations close at 4 pm, Sept. 19, after which a 24-hour window will be available for nominated candidates to withdraw and remove their names from the ballot.
According to the City's website, candidates are eligible to run "if you are a Canadian citizen; at least 18 years old; a resident of the city of North Battleford for at least three consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election; a resident of the province of Saskatchewan for at least six consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election."
The nomination period is also open in the town of Battleford and those residents seeking office for mayor or council can file their nomination papers at town hall during business hours up to 4 p.m., Sept. 19. The municipal election will be held Oct. 24.
