After allegations against RCMP on a Facebook page, Battlefords RCMP have issued a release regarding an incident that took place on Remembrance Day:

[Friday], North Battleford RCMP were advised there were comments on Facebook relating to an interaction a member from the Detachment had with an adult woman on Nov. 11.

The Facebook comments were highly critical of the actions of the member who was dispatched to respond to the complaint. As a result of these comments, the Battlefords detachment commander, Insp. John Sutherland, reviewed the Facebook comments, the initial complaint and the actions of the responding member.

This included reviewing all information available including the file and cell block records. Based on this review, here is what is known about this incident:



• Nov. 11at 8:56 p.m., Battlfefords RCMP received a complaint of a "lady walking with difficulties on the side of the road near the pool.”



• As a result of the complaint, a member was dispatched to Carlton Trail in North Battleford. When the member arrived on the scene, she located a 55-year-old woman laying on the side of the road. There were two men at this location who were attempting to help the woman.



• The woman appeared to be extremely cold and was showing signs of intoxication. She had bandages on her legs and her pants were down and she was unable to pull them up.

• The member tried to speak with the woman and was unable to as the female was showing signs of intoxication.



• One of the two men who were also attempting to help the woman offered the use of a blanket. The member thanked them for their assistance.



• The member asked the awoman if she was able to get inside the police vehicle so she could warm up. The member also called EMS to attend to the adult female.



• One of the men at the scene advised he had already called EMS. EMS arrived on the scene and the adwomanwas taken to hospital.



• At no point was this womanin RCMP custody or cells.


• The Facebook comments state the woman was located bound or tied up. The responding member located the woman with bandages on her legs from a pre-existing medical condition.



The RCMP takes all complaints about the actions of its members seriously and if anyone witnessed this incident or has information relating to this incident they are asked to contact the Battleford Detachment at 306-446-1720.
