One female passenger was killed Friday in a collision near Lloydminster.
The accident happened around 6:40 p.m. on Highway 303 and Township Road 3273 in the RM of Wilton.
Members of Maidstone detachment of the RCMP were dispatched to the scene. The collision involved a semi and a Dodge truck.
According to RCMP, an elderly couple was travelling westbound on Highway 303 in the truck when a northbound semi on Township Road 3273 crossed Highway 303. The Dodge hit the semi on the second set of driver wheels, causing the semi to tip onto its side and go into the ditch.
Smoke was seen at the scene and Lloydminster Fire and Rescue were called to contain the fire. Also, a small amount of heavy crude oil and sand leaked from the semi, but the trucking company contained and cleaned up the spill.
The two elderly persons as well as the male driver of the semi were transported to the Lloydminster Hospital. There the elderly female passenger succumbed to her injuries.
The accident remains under investigation. The RCMP says it will not release names until it is concluded.
