A 24-year-old man from Poundmaker First Nation is dead following a weekend hit and run.
The incident happened during the early hours of Monday. According to police, around 4:30 a.m. members of the Cut Knife RCMP detachment responded to an unrelated complaint on the First Nation when they observed a body lying on the south access road to the First Nation.
The members confirmed the individual was deceased.
An immediate investigation was launched, with the assistance of a Saskatoon Traffic Reconstructionist, North Battleford Forensic Identification Unit and North Battleford General Investigation Section. According to the RCMP, the initial investigation has revealed the deceased to be the victim of a hit and run.
The family has asked that the dead man's name not be released. The matter is under investigation and RCMP say they are actively looking for the vehicle involved at this time.
