Five men, ranging in age from 21 to 28, are facing charges in connection with a violent home invasion in Unity Saturday.
Unity RCMP say members were dispatched to a fight at a residence in the town at about 12:40 p.m. They found two adult men and a woman suffering from being sprayed with mace. Police say one man also had cuts on his head.
According to police, all refused medical attention and their injuries were minor. The victims reported five men had barged into the home and struck one of the men with a bottle before spraying the basement of the home with bear spray.
At approximately 2 p.m., Lloydminster and Maidstone RCMP stopped a vehicle on Highway16 entering Lloydminster and performed what officers describe as a high-risk takedown that resulted in the arrest of four individuals without incident.
They appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court Monday.
Charged are Matthew Meleshko, 24, and Catlin Thomas, 24, of Vermilion, Alta., Dakoda Foeller, 22, of Lloydminster, Sask. and Jason Johnson, 28, of Lloydminster, Alta. A fifth man, 21-year-old Austin Beckley of Unity was arrested and charged Monday.
All five face charges of break and enter, committing an assault with a weapon, three counts of assault with a weapon and possessing a prohibited weapon.
Thomas is also charged with possessing a weapon while prohibited and breach of recognizance.
Foeller faces two counts of breach of probation.
Beckley was to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court Tuesday.
Some of those accused were known to the victims, police say, adding the incident was not random in nature and the public is not considered to be at risk.
