The Wilkie Food Bank has been a staple in the community for approximately 25 years, operating year round.

Run now by a committee of three volunteers, it had first started on the basis of food donations. However with restrictions to space and personnel, the food bank discontinued that practice about eight years ago. Now, the Wilkie Food Bank operates on financial donations only and any amount greatly appreciated. These donations go towards food vouchers for those who call in seeking assistance from the food bank.

The system used is that when someone who requires assistance calls one of the committee members, they are then put through a screening process to see if they qualify for a voucher. If they are approved, the committee then contacts the Wilkie Co-op and notifies them of the person coming to use it, who is then given a basic list that they can choose from, excluding tobacco products. Each person using a voucher then has to wait three months until they can next use the food bank.

Although it may be the season for giving, once the season is over, there is still a need for the food bank. So please don't forget to give, all year long.

Please send donations to: Wilkie Food Bank, Box 71, Wilkie, S0K 4W0.
