Four facing theft charges

Battleford RCMP responded to over 90 calls for service between 6 a.m. Monday, April 20 and 6 a.m. Wednesday, April 22.

Monday

• A 23 year old male arrested and charged with mischief after a call at 8:07 a.m. reporting a man climbing into a third floor apartment on St Laurent Drive. 

• Four individuals arrested after a vehicle stop on Highway 4 about five kilometres north of North Battleford. The suspects were identified as being involved in two separate shoplifting incidents shortly before 10 a.m. before getting into an altercation with an employee at one of the stores and fleeing with some stolen property.  Investigation revealed subject had attended the city with intent of stealing items from several businesses. Numerous suspected stolen items were recovered from the vehicle at the time of arrest. A 24-year-old woman from Lloydminster is facing three charges of failing to comply with an undertaking, two charges of theft under $5, 000 and one count of being an accessory to robbery. A 20-year-old woman from Lloydminster is facing two counts of theft under $5,000 and one count of being an accessory to robbery. A 25-year-old man from Lloydminster is charged with dangerous driving, trafficking cocaine, robbery and two counts of theft under $5,000. A 24-year-old man from Lloydminster is charged with robbery and two counts of theft under $5,000. All four remain in custody and the investigation is still ongoing.

• Call of an attempted fraud at 11:20 a.m. An individual contacted the complainant by phone posing as a nephew and requesting $2,000 for bail. No cash was forwarded, some banking information may have been compromised, but the bank is also aware. Police are reminding people to be aware of this commonly used fraud technique. The suspects will call persons, claiming to be grandchildren or other extended family and request money be forwarded to their location for bail or other legal troubles. Do not forward any cash and do not provide banking information at any time.

• A 58-year-old man arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08 after a vehicle stop on Highway 4 just south of Battleford at 2 p.m.

• A red and white Explorer Mountain Bike reported stolen from the 1100 block of 102nd Street sometime between 10 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.

• At 8:50 p.m. police were called to a residence on the 1800 block of 110th Street reporting a male suspect was attempting to break into a residence and assault the occupant. Rick Diebel, 31, was arrested on scene and is facing charges of break and enter with intent, uttering threats, possession of a weapon, causing a disturbance, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and uttering threats. He made his first appearance while still in custody in North Battleford Provincial Court April 21.

• A 14-year-old female youth was arrested shortly after 10 p.m. at a residence on the 900 block of 105th Street and is facing two counts of assault and one count of possession of a weapon after an altercation with other occupants in the residence. The accused was reported to have pulled a knife on the victims at one point during the incident. No one was injured in the altercation. 

• A 27-year-old woman from Battleford is in custody facing several charges after a brief police pursuit on Railway Avenue east shortly after 11 p.m. A 911 call was originally received of a vehicle in the wrong lane driving west into North Battleford. The vehicle ignored members initial attempts to stop it before turning into the drive through of a local restaurant. The driver proceeded through the drive through and rammed a police vehicle blocking the far end before the driver was taken into custody. Krystal Opikokew, 27, is charged with impaired driving, driving while over .08, dangerous driving, flight from police and assaulting a police officer. She made her first appearance in court April 21. No one was injured in the incident. One police vehicle sustained front end damage in the collision.

Tuesday

• 911 call to a residence on the Sweetgrass First Nation of an assault at 1:10 a.m. Male victim was located and transported to hospital by ambulance suffering from head and facial injuries. He has since been released from hospital. No suspect(s) has yet been identified and the victim has not been co-operative with investigating officers.

• A 37-year-old woman was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon after allegedly assaulting her spouse with an axe handle shortly before 7 a.m. at a residence on 103rd Street. She has since been released from custody on several conditions pending her first appearance in provincial court.

• Report of a shoplifting incident at a business on Railway at 4:04 p.m., believed to have occurred approximately an hour earlier. Security footage available and remains under investigation.

• A 28-year-old woman was arrested and is facing a charge of assault after an incident on the 1800 block of 101st Street at 4:27 p.m. The accused was reported to have struck another female in the face and head area. The victim sustained minor facial injuries but did not require medical attention. 

• Members called to a residence on the Saulteaux First Nation at 10:57 p.m. reporting an altercation between two groups of people. The suspects were all gone from scene upon police arrival. Some damage to the residence was noted. All parties involved appeared to know each other. Investigation is ongoing.

Twelve persons were arrested for alcohol related offences and members responded to five nuisance 911 calls, five child welfare complaints, 14 disturbance calls, nine traffic investigations, three alarms, four Mental Health Act investigations, one bylaw matter, two minor collisions and three missing persons, all of whom were located.
