The summer tourist season is now upon us and the Frenchman Butte Heritage Center and Museum is anticipating another active summer hosting tourists from around the world.
Two years ago they began an initial phase of construction on a recreational vehicle campground to serve the traveller, and this year's expansion work intends to nearly double its size and is expected to be ready in time for the summer season.
This recent expansion will provide for 10 full hook-up sites on the east end of the complex of about 10 buildings, many containing displays and exhibits of that particular building's era. This campground addition provides a convenient "operations centre" for tourists who desire to spend a few days exploring the colourful and varied history of this region of Saskatchewan with its variety of historic sites, museums and celebratory events.
Located only about a 45-minute drive Northeast of Lloydminster, the cultural center and museum complex is located prominently in the center of the Frenchman Butte community and overlooks the scenic North Saskatchewan River.
Summer hours at the Heritage Center, Museum and Log Cabin Tea House are 10 to 5 pm. daily through July and August. The highlight of this year for the center's organization is their annual Museum Festival Day, scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 11, an event that shouldn't be missed by any history buff.
