Cal and Kim Theisen will be carrying some special cargo with them when they go to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August.

One Humboldt, Two Saskatchewan, and Two Canada flags have been signed by all the Humboldt students and the general public to wish Brianne Theisen-Eaton well on her way to the Rio Olympics.

One Canada flag was out so it could be signed at the Water Ridge Park Canada Day celebration.

Mayor Malcolm Eaton presented the four other flags that were signed by the students to the Theisen’s on Canada Day.

Lorraine Forster grew up next door to Theisen-Eaton’s grandmother and wanted to do something special so Theisen-Eaton knew that her hometown was thinking of her.

She headed the group that organized the signing, as well as a poster campaign sponsored by Conexus that will run until the Olympics.

Forster will be working to “paint the town” with the poster so local businesses and residents can show their support.

The City of Humboldt has also gotten on board, promoting the event through their media channels and creating a countdown event for 15 days from Jul. 21-Aug. 4 and messages of support during the Olympics from Aug. 5-21.

Jennifer Brooks with the City of Humboldt says this good idea was brought to council and fully supported as a way to generate support and civic pride around Theisen-Eaton.

“Since Brianne Theisen-Eaton is a local athlete, council just thought it was a great idea. It’s always nice to support local kids that go on and compete at higher levels.”

The city countdown will include facts provided by Cal, which are shared through the city’s social media channels for those who want to get involved.

Posters will be available around mid-July and will be distributed around local businesses. They will also be available at City Hall and the Chamber of Commerce, says Forster.
