NORTHERN SASKATCHEWAN – Update: On Monday afternoon, Kara Slobodzian director, marketing and communications for the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) said the CLUB fire, which is impacting the community of Creighton, has more resources assigned to it today including Type 1 and 2 crew members, helicopter support, Creighton FD, Flin Flon FD, and Air Tanker Support.
Slobodzian said the WOLF fire had more resources assigned to it today, including Type 1 and 2 crews, helicopter support, air tanker Support, and SPSA Emergency Response Team.
Original story: Raging wildfires near Creighton, Denare Beach and Flin Flon have forced thousands of residents to flee their homes and frustrated residents have taken to social media, pleading for additional support.
The Northern Village of Denare Beach issued an update Monday morning, warning that the Wolf Fire west of Amisk Lake has grown significantly over the past 24 hours. Firefighters are working to secure the area, but the situation remains volatile.
“There is a severe lack of manpower and equipment on the Saskatchewan side,” said Paul Rossington.
Eddie Trubiak posted a photo of a group of people holding placards and said, “Scott Moe we are here waiting for you. We need help now.”
Les Oystryk said, “We need help in Northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba now.”
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) reported approximately 15 active fires, with nine still uncontained. More than 8,000 people have been evacuated, with officials urging individuals to leave via Highways 969 and 2 and relocate to Regina.
The SPSA has been contacted for further comment on emergency response efforts.
