Garage sales are great for cleaning out basements and garages and everyone hopes to sell all items on display. Garage sale signs are prevalent in the spring to let people know the locations. However, a few rules apply within North Battleford’s city limits that pertain to where and how signs of any kind can be set up.

Please be reminded that:

• Signs can be posted on your own private property or other’s property if permission by the owner is granted.

• Signs on private property need to be in such a place and position that they do not distract drivers or affect visibility and therefore post a traffic hazard. Signs at an intersection are dangerous as motorists will slow down or stop in the middle of the intersection to read the sale location.

• Posting signs on public property (including utility poles, sign posts, along sidewalks, streets and boulevards) is not permitted.

• Signs that are posted on public property or pose a safety risk will be removed and the property owners may be fined.

Garage or yard sales are generally allowed when they are undertaken by residents on their own dwelling or by a non-profit group associated with a place of worship, public school, community association or other similar group or organization.
