Hammerheads swim away as season wraps up

Summer is all but over now, and with the hot days goes the swimming season for the Humboldt Hammerheads. The local swim club held its annual general meeting and awards ceremony on Sept. 7 at the Humboldt Uniplex.

The local swim club held its annual general meeting and awards ceremony on Sept. 7 at the Humboldt Uniplex.


After a dinner, head coach Deb Stumborg presented the following awards:


Guppy Award - Tessa Cannon and Brett Lins
Congeniality Award - Karyn Kaip
Most Improved, Jr. Male - Darren Romanuik (honourable mention to Ryan Hinz and Michael Solar)
Most Improved, Jr. Female - Abbie Cannon (honourable mention to Haley Lins and Lauren Hinz)
Top Novice - Jay Eichorst
Top Senior - Drew Dillabough (honourable mention to Taylor Lins)
Coaches Awards - Junior: Garrett Brown; Intermediate: Ryan Hinz; Senior: Darwin Lessmeister
High Point Female - Maya Berscheid
High Point Male - Michael Carnago
Most Dedicated Swimmer - Jordan Nienaber
Family Award - The Lins Family


Interim president Tia Nienaber presented all of the coaches with tokens of appreciation and also said goodbye to Leanne Dillabough, a longtime member of the executive.


The annual general meeting was held following the awards ceremony. Highlights from the meeting included:


A stroke camp will be held with Clint Stevens in Humboldt, May 24 and 25, 2014
The Humboldt sprint meet will be held on June 14, 2014
Nipawin will host the North Division semi-finals on July 19, 2014
Provincials will be held in Weyburn, July 26 and 27, 2014
Leisl Lefebvre will take over as the new head coach for 2014
A new executive was voted in: Paula Carnago, president; Ella Berscheid, vice-president; Nathale Young, treasurer; Rene Cannon, secretary; Denise Seidel, director; and Jennifer Brooks, director.
