The Nipawin Hawks dug themselves an early first period hole and were never able to fully recover as they fell 4-3 in overtime to the Flin Flon Bombers in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action from Flin Flon.
The Dec. 2 contest got off to a slow start for the Hawks and it hurt them as the Bombers scored twice in the first four minutes to take an early 2-0 lead.
Kenzie Arnold got the Hawks on the board just over four minutes later with his third of the season, sending the game into the first intermission with the Bombers in front 2-1.
After a three goal first period the game slowed down in the second as Brandan Arnold scored the lone goal of the period, sending the game into the third tied at two.
The Bombers regained their one goal lead at the 8:00 mark of the third, but the lead did not last very long as Chad McCartney scored his sixth of the year just 2:26 later, sending the game into overtime tied at 3.
In the extra session, Calvon Boots beat Hawks goaltender Jake Anthony to give the Bombers the overtime win.
Anthony was charged with the loss in the Hawks goal, allowing four goals on 40 shots as the Hawks outshot the Bombers 43-40.
The Hawks will look to get back in the win column when they return home on Dec. 5 for a rematch against the Bombers.
