Hearing set for man accused of killing Troy Watson

PRINCE ALBERT – A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a Mistawasis First Nation man charged with second-degree murder in the death of 36-year-old Troy Watson.

The hearing for 21-year-old Roy Lasas will begin Aug. 12 in Prince Albert Provincial Court to determine if there is enough evidence for him to stand trial.

Lasas, and a young offender who can’t be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, were charged in January.

According to Shellbrook RCMP, just before 9 p.m. on Nov. 17, 2020, they received a call to assist the local EMS with an unconscious man outside a home on Mistawasis First Nation. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit North (MCU-N), Prince Albert and Tisdale RCMP Forensic Identification Services, and the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service assisted Shellbrook RCMP with the investigation.
