Wednesday, members from the Loon Lake Detachment of the RCMP noticed an unusual amount of smoke on the north side of the Village of Loon Lake and the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.

An immediate patrol was made where approximately two kilometres north of the Village of Loon Lake, a small fire, turned into a grass fire that spread quickly.  The wind at the time was high, causing the fire to run east, skirting the Village and the north east portion of the First Nation.  The Village of Loon Lake Fire Department were on the scene working to control the blaze.

No houses were damaged or lost, according to RCMP.

The RCMP remind the public to be extremely careful  this time of year.  The grass is  dry and flammable, and with no snow or ground moisture present due to an early spring, the fear of fire getting out of control is high, police say.

The Village of Loon Lake Fire Department along with the Loon Lake Detachment of the RCMP wish to remind the public to use extreme caution at this time of year.
