RM OF MORRIS — A human skull was found in a field in the RM of Morris, which is in the Watrous area.

Watrous RCMP said they responded to a call about the discovery on Feb. 28 at around 3:20 p.m. The discoverers were looking for shed antlers.

Police said RCMP Major Crimes Unit South has taken the lead in the investigation with the assistance of the Watrous detachment, Saskatoon RCMP Forensic Identification Section, RCMP Police Dog Services, the Saskatchewan Coroners Service and a forensic anthropologist.

An autopsy took place on March 3 in Saskatoon, RCMP said. During the autopsy it was determined the individual was likely female and between 25-35 years of age.

The remains do not appear to be historical in nature. At this time, it has not been confirmed whether this individual’s death is considered suspicious.

Major Crimes Unit South will be collaborating between other Saskatchewan police services and potentially neighbouring provinces in an effort to identify the deceased, RCMP said. As well, there will be investigative efforts around DNA comparison and consultation with the National DNA Data Bank has begun.

Those with any information are asked to contact the Watrous RCMP at 306-946-3316 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
