Humboldt man convicted of Internet luring

Joseph Therres, 62, of Humboldt has been convicted of using the Internet to lure a child for the purpose of committing a sexual assault. Therres pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced in Humboldt Provincial Court on April 4.

Therres pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced in Humboldt Provincial Court on April 4. He received an 18-month conditional sentence order. Among the conditions of his sentence is that he is to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18 without supervision.
A publication ban has been issued, preventing the release of any details that would identify the child involved.
The offense for which Therres was convicted occurred in 2007. He was charged in July of 2010 after a lengthy RCMP investigation.
Therres was charged under section 172 of the Canadian Criminal Code, which prohibits people from using computer systems to connect with people under or believed to be under the age of 18 for the purpose of committing a sexual assault.
In this case, no actual assault took place.
