Humboldt Terry Fox Run set for Sept. 15

It's been 33 years since Terry Fox dipped his foot in the Atlantic Ocean and set out on his Marathon of Hope, inspiring a nation in the process.

It's been 33 years since Terry Fox dipped his foot in the Atlantic Ocean and set out on his Marathon of Hope, inspiring a nation in the process.

Since then, over $600 million has been raised in Fox's name, with more to come in Humboldt this Saturday, Sept. 15.

The girls' soccer team at Humboldt Collegiate Institute and their coach, Teri Lueke, are organizing this year's run.

"It flip-flopped between various sports teams over the past few years, but we decided we wanted to take it over," Lueke said.

The run will start from the Humboldt A&W and run between 1 and 4 p.m. Registration is open up until the start of the race at the A&W and there are many options for all levels of fitness and endurance.

"You can run, bike or whatever you want to do," Lueke said.

Last year over $1 million was raised in Saskatchewan and run organizers are hoping to beat that mark this year.

Approximately 750 communities across Canada will be holding Terry Fox runs this year.
