Humboldt's Brianne Theisen-Eaton is adding a gold medal from this year's Commonwealth Games in Scotland on July 27 to the silver she won at the world championships last year.

"I always said I don't think I would get choked up but I had to fight back a few tears [on the podium]," she told CBC. "It's just representing your country and knowing everybody back home is happy and watching and supporting you. It feels really good."

She scored just over 6,500 points in the heptathlon by winning high jump, shot put, 200m, long jump and 800m. The second place winner, Canadian Jessica Zelinka, won the remaining 100m hurdles and javelin.

Saskatoon's Jill Gallays won bronze in women's wrestling on the same day.

Other Canadians to medal at the Commonwealth Games include Derek Drouin with gold and Michael Mason with bronze in men's high jump, Julie Labonte with a bronze in shot put, Damian Warner with gold in decathlon, as well as three gold medals in wrestling.

As of press time, Theisen-Eaton was unreachable for comment.
