Treacherous icy road conditions are being blamed for collisions on area roads Monday.

The first collision happened at 11 a.m. just to the west of Maymont on Highway 16, according to WPD Ambulance.

WPD says a man and a woman were transported to hospital in stable condition. North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services reported to the scene as well as did Warman RCMP and Department of Highways Enforcement.

The second incident was at 5:50 p.m. on Highway 40 west at Prongua Hill. When paramedics arrived, they found an SUV that had gone down a steep embankment. Three patients - two men and a woman - were transported to Battlefords Union Hospital. All had minor injuries.

The collisions happened on a day of especially bad conditions on Saskatchewan highways. Both those highways had "travel not recommended" warnings all day from the Highway Hotline, as did many others all over Saskatchewan.

WPD is warning motorists to take their time on area roads so they will arrive safely.
