TISDALE — Tisdale RCMP caught one impaired driver as part of SGI's Traffic Safety Initiatives’ High Visibility Enforcement check stops.
“We did get an impaired driver out of operation,” said Cpl. Mike Benjamin. “One driver, and there were quite a few vehicles stopped and drivers tested for alcohol consumption. Most of them passed.”
This is part of SGI's Traffic Safety Initiative where there have been several check stops set up throughout the province that the RCMP have been going to on selected dates. The most recent being Oct. 27 and 28 where RCMP across the province teamed up to stop impaired drivers throughout the province.
For the Tisdale RCMP the checks were set up throughout Tisdale and Kinistin.
“Driving offences are the leading cause of death and injury in Canada, especially impaired driving,” Benjamin said. “It’s a high property for the division and our attachment area, to reduce the casualties and the number of crashes we have.”
Benjamin advises residents that with Christmas on the way, use a sober designated driver.
“With the upcoming Christmas holidays coming up and all the Christmas parties, my request would be for people to arrange for sober drivers. We note an increase in the amount of arrests and charges as well as the amount of activity when it comes to the Christmas season and the enforcement also ramps up to focus on that.”
“We really want to make sure people are focused on getting sober drivers and make it home safely.”
