Impaired driving arrests dominate busy weekend for RCMP

Battlefords RCMP responded to 249 calls for service over the time period Friday, Aug. 18 at 6 a.m. to Monday, Aug. 21, at 6 a.m., including but not limited to the following:

Aug. 18

7:12 a.m.  Police responded to a vehicle rollover and fire in the rural area north of North Battleford.  hree individuals were seen grabbing beer from the vehicle and then fleeing the scene before police arrived. On police arrival it was discovered the vehicle was stolen from Panton Avenue last week, where the owner was assaulted after approaching youth he had located in the vehicle. The vehicle was destroyed by fire. The matter is still under investigation.

3:26p.m. Police located an impaired driver on 22nd Street in Battleford. The 39-year-old male driver was from the Battlefords area. The driver was arrested and charged with: impaired operation of a motor vehicle; failure/refuse to provide a breath sample; operate a motor vehicle without a registration; drive while license renewal refused by administrator.

9:34 p.m. Police recovered a white 2012 F350 Ford Superduty that had been stolen from the Battlefords. The vehicle was located in the rural area south of Battleford. All of the tires and rims had been stolen from it. The matter is still under investigation.

Aug. 19

9:11 a.m. Police attended to a call of an impaired driver on Highway 16 near Delmas. The driver of the vehicle had driven off the highway and into a field. Investigation revealed that a 17- year-old female from the Cut Knife area was driving the vehicle. She was arrested and subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operate a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg percent.

9:40 a.m. Police responded to Highway 4 near the Territorial Drive turnoff. Sometime overnight unknown individuals vandalized the City of North Battleford’s radar sign.

1:04 p.m. Police located an impaired driver on 110th Street in North Battleford. Investigation revealed the driver was a 33- year-old female from North Battleford. She was arrested and refused to provide a breath sample. She was subsequently charged with: impaired operation of a motor vehicle; failure/refuse to provide a breath sample.

Aug. 20

4:50 p.m. Police located a vehicle going 137 km/h south bound on Highway 4 south of Battleford. Police stopped the vehicle and located a 30-year-old male from the Battlefords area driving it. The male was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested. The driver became confrontational with police and therefore police were unable to obtain a sample of his breath. The driver was subsequently charged with the following: impaired operation of a motor vehicle; failure/refuse to provide a breath sample; uttering threats to the police.

Aug. 21

1:59 a.m. Police responded to a domestic assault on the 900 block of 112th Street in North Battleford. Investigation revealed that a 37- year-old male and a 31-year-old female, both from North Battleford, had assaulted each other. The female had also struck the male in the head with a hammer. Both subjects were transported to hospital and subsequently charged with assault and assault with a weapon. Investigation is still underway.

In addition to the above investigations, Battlefords RCMP also investigated 24 driving infractions and various provincial statutes that resulted in an additional 16 various charges.
