It's dry out there

While farmers have appreciated the long dry stretch of weather allowing them to make steady progress with the 2013 harvest, the dry conditions are also creating a fire hazard.

While farmers have appreciated the long dry stretch of weather allowing them to make steady progress with the 2013 harvest, the dry conditions are also creating a fire hazard.

North Battleford Fire Department was called to contain a blaze on Highway 4 north in the Forest Hall Road area in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The fire, located in a stubble field, consumed between five and ten acres before being brought under control by the two pumpers, tanker truck and brush truck unit that responded. Seven firefighters were on the scene for about an hour, heading back to base at about 5:30 a.m.

Sept. 11, the NBFD responded with their rescue boat at the old bridges off Battleford Road. An individual was attempting to jump off the bridge, but the fire department's response proved precautionary, as the person was removed from the bridge and taken into RCMP custody.
