Prior to the start of Monday's council meeting, Mayor Ian Hamilton awarded city manager Jim Toye with a Diamond Jubilee Medal. Toye had been nominated by the board of directors of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators, an organization where he previously served as president.

Another Battlefordian received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal recently, and he was awarded the medal at the North Battleford city council meeting Monday.

Jim Toye, North Battleford's long-serving city manager, received the award itself from Ian Hamilton before the meeting began.

"It was a pleasure and certainly a privilege in chambers to have the opportunity to present the award to Jim. We certainly value Jim's work in the city of North Battleford," Hamilton said to reporters after the meeting.

"When CAMA, the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators board of directors recommended him, as he was past president, it just says a lot about how Jim is revered nationally as well as within our own city limits. I can't say anything but how pleased and proud I am and how we as council are."

The award, of which 60,000 were given out in Canada, was created to mark the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's ascension to the throne. It "serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians."

In addition to his work as a prior president of CAMA, Toye has also served as the president of the Urban Municipal Administrators Association of Saskatchewan, along with other roles in various municipal organizations.
