Residents of Jubilee Home in Lloydminster are enjoying enhanced quality of life with improvements underway throughout their long-term care facility, according to Prairie North Health Region.
In a press release, the region reveals all 50 resident rooms plus hallways and four common rooms are being upgraded to improve the overall living and working environment, strengthen resident and staff safety and infection control, enhance comfort for residents and staff and generally improve the aesthetics and atmosphere for all residents, families, visitors and staff.
Among the improvements are completing the installation of new windows and installing wall protection in all resident rooms, replacing handrails in hallways and repairing and painting all personal living and common spaces.
"Prairie North Health Region is committed to renewing the focus on seniors and long-term care within competing priorities," said Bonnie O'Grady, chairperson of the Prairie North Regional Health Authority board. "I and my fellow board members are pleased that the $180,000 project is progressing well for the benefit of our seniors and other residents of the long-term care facility."
In its 2013-14 budget, PNHR dedicated $500,000 toward improving its long-term care services, by adding the equivalent of 10 full-time frontline care positions in long-term care.
Prairie North says it has been advised by the Ministry of Health that the Jubilee Home project is being supported with funding from the provincial Urgent Issues Action Fund, established by government to address priority long-term care issues identified by health regions.
"We are grateful for that support of this important and necessary project," O'Grady stated.
The board and administration of Prairie North Health Region planned and committed to the Jubilee Home project with the full support of the facility's new Resident and Family Council, the release states.
Council chairperson Orval Callfus said, "When I moved into Jubilee, I made this my home. Now this is a home I'm so proud of. Everyone who visits me thinks it's beautiful and can't say enough good things about the improvements."
Facility manager Lori Anderson added, "The Jubilee Home facelift has boosted morale for not only our residents but also for their families and our staff. These renovations are enhancing the facility's warm and comforting environment, helping to improve our residents' quality of life and the work life of those who care for them."
The project throughout the four wings of the 50-bed LTC facility is to be complete by the end of March 2015.
