Jury trial set for Sheldon Wolf's accused killer

Victor Braima is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Sheldon Wolf

CALGARY, Alta. – A trial will be held next year for a Calgary man accused of killing 47-year-old Sheldon Wolf from Carrot River, Sask.

The jury trial for Victor Braima, 24, is scheduled for Oct. 17, 2022, to Nov. 10, 2022, in Calgary Court of Queen’s Bench. Jury selection is set for Oct. 12, 2022.

Wolf’s body was found in a rural area north of Airdrie, 28 kilometres north of Calgary, on Feb. 4, 2020. Wolf was reported missing Feb. 3 after he was last seen leaving the downtown Calgary hotel at about 7 p.m. the day prior.

Calgary Police (CPS) say they found evidence connected to Wolf’s disappearance in Elliston Park on Feb. 4, 2020. This led them to a rural area near Airdrie.

Bail restriction eased

Braima was arrested three days later. He was originally denied bail but later released with strict conditions including 24-hour house arrest, wearing a GPS monitored ankle bracelet and residing at his parent’s home in Calgary.

On Nov. 26, Braima had a bail review hearing at Calgary Court of Queen’s Bench and the condition that he must wear a GPS ankle bracelet was removed.

Second suspect sought

In February 2021, CPS issued a photo of Sharmarke Ali Mohamed, 22, from Regina. They say he is a person of interest in Wolf’s murder. Mohamed also has ties to the Toronto area and goes by the alias Mohamod.

CPS believes that Mohamed exited a white Infiniti QX4 and then got into a Toyota Scion with Wolf just minutes before Wolf was murdered. They say several people were involved in Wolf's murder.

Wolf, who is from Carrot River, Sask., was staying at the Sandman Hotel in downtown Calgary when he willingly met several people he had no previous relationship with, said Calgary Police.

Calgary Police ask anyone with information about Mohamed’s whereabouts or the homicide to call police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
