A release from City Hall says the landfill site has re-opened after a fire shut the site down this morning.

At approximately 8 a.m. on Oct. 21 a minor fire at North Battleford’s waste management facility landfill was detected.

The City of North Battleford Fire Department was called to assist the WMF staff with extinguishing the fire.

Nine fire department personnel were on the scene of the fire. They were there for approximately four hours until the fire was under control.

The standard operating procedure to a fire resulted in the WMF closing to the public and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment being notified. No injuries occurred during the fire and the cause of the fire remains unknown.

The WMF has since re-opened to the public. The City of North Battleford extends its thanks for residents’ understanding and co-operation during this time.
