Lethbridge prisoner arrested for Northwest robbery

RCMP have arrested a man in relation a break and enter and robbery that occurred at a residence north of Edam on Jan. 12 of this year.

A press released from the provincial RCMP has stated that on Aug. 24, at approximately 9 a.m., members of the North Battleford RCMP General Investigation Section and North Battleford Provost Section arrested a serving prisoner at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre in Alberta

The prisoner was transported back to North Battleford and appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Aug. 27.

Darian Jordan Meesto, born Oct. 31, 1993, is facing the following charges in relation to this incident:

Break and enter and commit robbery - Section 348(1)(b) and 344(1)(a.1) of the Criminal Code

Use a firearm in a careless manner - Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code

Point a firearm in a careless manner - Section 87 of the Criminal Code

Discharge a firearm while being reckless - Section 244.2 of the Criminal Code

Wear a disguise with intent to commit an offence - Section 351(2) of the Criminal Code

Forcible confinement - Section 279(2) of the Criminal Code

Meesto’s next court appearance is on Aug. 29.

At the time of the robbery, it was reported that on Jan. 12, shortly after 1 a.m., Turtleford RCMP responded to a complaint of a break and enter and robbery at a residence north of Edam.

Three individuals had entered the residence wearing black masks. Numerous items were taken from inside before the three left the scene in an unknown vehicle and in an unknown direction.

Police also reported that an adult male, adult female and youth inside the residence at the time of the incident did not report any injuries to police.
