Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation received a $10,000 donation from North Battleford Lions Club recently in support of “We Want to…Catch it!  Stop it! Treat it!” capital campaign to purchase a new mammography unit for BUH’s Medical Imaging Department. As noted by Cheryl Mitchell of BUH, “Every year BUH’s mammography technologists complete over 2,000 mammograms. A mammogram is considered the ‘gold standard’ in early diagnosis of breast cancer, before symptoms are experienced – in both men and women – when it is most treatable. Our current unit is 10 years old and needs to be replaced. Medical diagnostic technology has really advanced and we need to ensure that our patients at BUH have access to the best diagnostics and care.”  One of the major fundraisers the NB Lions Club holds is their annual Guns & Collectables Show in September every year.  This allows them to support various organizations within their community. Claudette McGuire, executive director of BUH Foundation, stated, “This donation from NB Lions Club will benefit BUH Foundation’s goal in reaching the over $500,000 set for this capital campaign. Thank you to NB Lions Club for working hard to raise these funds and for giving back to enrich patient care at our hospital, and your community.” In the photo, North Battleford Lions Club representatives Pat Folan, Cecil Russell and President Terry Melnechuk present a cheque to Cheryl Mitchell, Medical Imaging Services transition lead, and BUH medical imaging staff.
