May 3 to 9 is North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week. This year’s theme is Make Safety a Habit.

NAOSH week, which is observed throughout North America, promotes health and safety in the workplace and at home.

“This week is a reminder that we are all responsible for safe and healthy workplaces,” Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan said when it was announced the Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed the week for the province. “I encourage all employers and employees to make safety a top priority not just this week but throughout the year.”

Saskatchewan was chosen to host the National Launch for the 2015 NAOSH Week with a launch Monday in Saskatoon at Prairieland Park on Monday and a luncheon Tuesday in Regina at the Conexus Arts Centre, with booth events featuring a keynote address from Greg Johnson, one of North America’s top professional storm-chasers and severe weather experts.

Also known as the Tornado Hunter, Johnson has over 10 years of experience and enjoys chasing classic prairie thunder and lightning storms, tornadoes, hurricanes and blizzards. NAOSH will be hosting the Amazing Safety Quest competition during the Saskatoon launch. The competition includes activities designed to engage, encourage, and educate young Saskatchewan workers about the importance of workplace health and safety both at work and at home.

Saskatchewan NAOSH week activities are promoted and coordinated by the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, the Workers’ Compensation Board, the Government of Canada, the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering, Threads of Life, Saskatchewan Safety Associations, and the Saskatchewan Safety Council.
