Man accused of pointing firearm at several youth seeks bail

NORTH BATTLEFORD – A Leoville man accused of pointing a firearm at several youth made his first appearance in court Friday and was remanded back in custody.

Gaiton Sakebow, 32, is now scheduled to have a show cause hearing Feb. 23 in North Battleford Provincial Court.

Sakebow was arrested at a Pelican Lake First Nation home Feb. 16. The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team assisted Spiritwood RCMP in the arrest.

RCMP say their investigation determined that on Feb. 9 Sakebow allegedly entered a home on Pelican Lake First Nation and pointed a firearm at several youth, left, and then shot the firearm outside. No one was injured. Pelican Lake First Nation is near Spiritwood. Spiritwood is 110 km northeast of North Battleford.

Sakebow was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon knowing its possession was unauthorized, pointing a firearm, three counts of failing to comply with a probation order, three counts of failing to comply with a release order, and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

At the time of Sakebow’s arrest, he was wanted on six other arrest warrants issued by Spiritwood RCMP, Big River RCMP, and Prince Albert Police Service.

The charges against Sakebow haven't been proven in court.
