Man charged in incident where homeowner assaulted with stock of rifle denied bail

RCMP say three people broke into a home on Red Pheasant and used the stock of a rifle to assault one occupant.

A 19-year-old Red Pheasant man facing charges in North Battleford and Saskatoon court has been denied bail.

Meechance, and his co-accused 39-year-old Vernon Wahobin and a 17-year-old youth, were charged after RCMP responded to a call at about 3:30 a.m. on June 27 that three people had broken into a home on Red Pheasant First Nation and used the stock of a rifle to assault one occupant. The victim was treated for minor injuries.

Wahobin was arrested and warrants were issued for Meechance and the youth, who can't be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act. A trial for Wahobin is set for Sept. 27 in North Battleford Provincial Court.

Meechance appears in North Battleford Provincial Court by CCTV on Aug. 11 and in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Aug. 24.
