Man charged with assaulting a peace officer

Battlefords RCMP responded to more than 170 calls for service between 6 a.m. Wednesday, April 22 and 6 a.m. Sunday, April 26.

Wednesday

• Report of a vehicle broken into sometime between midnight and 9 a.m. on the Moosomin First Nation.

• Vehicle parked on the 1500 block of 107th Street broken into sometime between 11 p.m. previous evening and 8 a.m. on this date.

• A 31-year-old man arrested shortly before 2 p.m. on the 800 block of 99th Street. Found to be very intoxicated and causing a disturbance. The subject pushed a Community Safety Officer during his arrest and was subsequently charged with assaulting a peace officer. 

• At 2 p.m. a report of a break and enter to a residence on the 1700 block of 98th Street was reported. Door to residence found with damage, nothing reported missing.

• 37-year-old man arrested and facing numerous charges after a vehicle was reported to be driving erratically west of Battleford. The accused initially attempted to evade police by travelling off road but was located after the vehicle became stuck. The man is facing charges of impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, flight, disqualified driving and three counts of breach of an undertaking. 

• Shortly after 9 p.m. a man approached a pedestrian walking on 14th Avenue, produced a knife and attempted to attain cash from the victim. The man fled the scene without attaining any cash and the victim was not harmed. The suspect was described as being in his mid to late teens, with dark hair, wearing a dark hat, and a t-shirt with red sleeves. The man stood about 5 feet 2 inches and had a bandana with black and white dots covering his face. The investigation into this matter is still ongoing.

Thursday

• Two persons seen attempting to break into two vehicles parked on the 1700 block of 110th Street at 1:30 a.m. Perpetrators fled scene and have yet to be identified.

• A 14-year-old youth is facing numerous charges after an incident at a youth group home shortly after 9 p.m. The suspect was reported to be angry and threatening staff. The youth was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, two of mischief under $5,000 and two of uttering threats after investigation found the youth had damaged some mirrors at the location and threatened staff with the broken glass.

Friday

• A 17-year-old youth is facing charges of impaired driving and driving while over .08 after a vehicle check on the 1300 block of 112th Street shortly after midnight.

• Report of an attempted break and enter to a residence on the 1800 block of 97th Street. Sometime between 9:40 a.m. and 10:10 a.m. suspect damaged the back door of the residence but did not gain entry.

• A 20-year-old woman was arrested and is facing one count of theft under $5,000 after a reported shoplifting incident on Carlton Trail shortly after noon.

• Report of a woman shoplifting at a business on Territorial Drive North at 12:37 p.m. Woman fled the scene, but surveillance footage may be available.

• A 15-year-old youth arrested and facing one count of theft under $5,000 after a reported shoplifting incident at a business on Carlton Trail at 7:52 p.m.

• A 14-year-old youth was arrested shortly before 9 p.m. and is facing one count of mischief to property, after a youth was reported to be intoxicated and causing a disturbance on Winder Crescent. The youth has caused damage to a window and kicked holes in a wall in an apartment.

Saturday

• Vehicles parked on the 1200 block of 98th Street and the 1100 block of 101st Street reported damaged sometime over previous night.

• 33-year-old woman charged with mischief and two counts of breach of probation after a report of a suspect throwing rocks at windows on Ross Crescent at 4:30 p.m. Accused has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court June 29.

• Report of an attempted theft in progress from Cochin at 6:22 p.m. Three men were witnessed attempting to steal vehicle parts in a yard before fleeing area. Two suspects were located and arrested. Two men, ages 33 and 45. are facing charges of theft. A third suspect has also been identified but has not yet been located.

Police also arrested 23 people for alcohol related offences, responded to eight nuisance 911 calls, 29 traffic complaints, five bylaw matters, 12 disturbance calls, six child welfare investigations, nine alarms responded to, five Mental Health Act investigations, two missing persons complaints which have been solved and two minor collisions.
