Sampson Roberts was arrested following two incidents involving firearms

LA RONGE – A  man facing numerous weapons-related offences was sentenced in La Ronge Provincial Court Thursday to one year in jail.

La Ronge RCMP arrested 21-year-old Sampson Roberts following two incidents involving firearms.

On May 3 La Ronge RCMP responded to a complaint of shots fired at a residence on Bells Point Road on Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB).  In that incident Roberts was charged with six firearms-related offences.

On July 8 La Ronge RCMP responded to a complaint of a vehicle rollover on Highway 165. According to police, there were three occupants in the vehicle. Two fled the scene before police arrived and weren’t located. The remaining occupant was treated for minor injuries. A firearm was found at the scene. Roberts was the driver.

La Ronge RCMP, RCMP Emergency Response Team and RCMP Police Dog Services teamed up to arrest Roberts. Police issued a warrant for his arrest and on July 18 notified the public of increased police presence on LLRIB. Roberts ran into a wooded area and was located that day at around 11:30 p.m. at a nearby residence.

In that incident he was charged with five firearms-related offences, driving while prohibited and two counts of breach of probation.
