A 24-year-old man is wanted by Battlefords RCMP for a wide range of offences including pointing a firearm after an incident in North Battleford at about 3 p.m. Wednesday.
RCMP say multiple complaints of an erratic driver in and around the city were received.
Members responded and attempted to initiate a traffic stop of a black Dodge Charger. The lone male driver fled from the police driving at high rates of speed throughout the city.
The RCMP report that the man was seen by police and civilian witnesses pointing a firearm at two police officers. Attempts to apprehend the individual were halted because of the potential for pedestrian traffic at that time of day. However, the driver pointed a firearm at a third officer initiating a multi-officer response.
Attempts to apprehend the suspect were again called off due to the high rate of speed the suspect was travelling. The suspect, who has been identified as Gabriel Joseph Poundmaker of Battleford, fled the city.
He is currently wanted for pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, possession of a firearm while prohibited and breach of probation.
Poundmaker is of First Nation descent, 5' 11" and has a slim build, black hair, brown eyes, a black mustache and goatee and has tattoos on both arms. On the right is the name "Gabriel" and on the left is "Poundmaker.” He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
The vehicle is described as a black Dodge Charger four-door with tinted windows and blacked out rims. It has Saskatchewan licence plate 201 IZB.
The Battlefords RCMP is asking for the public's assistance in locating Poundmaker. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Battlefords Detachment of the RCMP at 306-446-1720, Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), through SaskTel at *8477 or submit a tip online at www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
