Frazer’s No Frills and the President’s Choice Children’s Charity has presented a Mayfair family with a $20,000 grant to provide 11-year-old Emily Toews with a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
“It’s wonderful to be able to help a child reach their full potential. We are so proud to partner with President’s Choice Children’s Charity and to help children right here in our own community,” said Frazer Bonin, owner and operator of No Frills in North Battleford last week when Emily visited the store for the official cheque presentation.
Bonin said the team at Frazer’s No Frills raised money towards this gift through the support of customers during in-store campaigns and direct employee contributions.
Emily's mother, Teresa, said, "This is amazing," amid tears.
She said the new vehicle, which they were to receive this week, will mean Emily can remain in her wheelchair and be lifted into it mechanically.
"I've had a van," says Teresa, "but I had to lift her into the car seat and then put the wheel chair into the back. It's lots of manhandling, and she's getting so much bigger."
Friends and family gathered at the store and customers joined in the celebration as well.
Emily, who goes to school at Hafford, especially enjoyed the ice cream cake.
One hundred per cent of funds raised by President’s Choice Children’s Charity in Saskatchewan go directly toward supporting Saskatchewan families whose children have physical or developmental disabilities, as well as nutrition programs aimed at fighting childhood hunger.
In 2013, the President’s Choice Children’s Charity granted $433,860 to 38 families and 129 nutrition programs, which feed over 22,385 children in Saskatchewan. Since 1989, the Charity has awarded $100 million, supporting more than 1.3 million children across Canada.
