MELFORT — The Melfort Fire Hall was the victim of a break, enter and theft resulting in around $700 worth of equipment stolen.
“So far we know there are several items unaccounted for,” said Jason Everitt, chief of the Melfort & District Fire Department. “One is a GPS dash cam unit that was stolen from one of our trucks, we’ve had some fuel containers and some fuel removed as well as a set of what’s called gear wrenches.”
As of Jan. 25 the department is currently in the process of doing a full inventory to find out if anything else was stolen. Everitt believes the Garmin nuviCam GPS / Dash Cam device with mounting bracket and power cord unit was the most expensive piece of equipment stolen.
“We’re in the process of not only looking for items that are unaccounted for but also to check all of our critical equipment to make sure it wasn’t maliciously damaged as well, which sometimes does happen,” Everitt said.
The theft occurred between the hours of 5 pm on Jan. 23 to and 8 am on Jan. 24.
If anyone has any information about those responsible, please contact the Melfort RCMP Detachment at 306-752-6420.
The service of the department will not be impacted in any way from this theft.
