MELFORT — A 45-year-old Melfort man has been charged after Melfort Combined Traffic Services pursued a speeding vehicle that refused to pull over.
Police said they attempted to stop the vehicle on May 20 at 8:30 p.m. During the pursuit, a Combined Traffic Services vehicle and the suspect's vehicle were involved in a collision. Shortly after, the pursuit was discontinued due to concerns about public safely.
Officers from Melfort Combined Traffic Services, Melfort RCMP, Prince Albert Police Dog Services, Nipawin RCMP, Tisdale RCMP and the Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team then continued to make patrols in attempt to locate the suspect vehicle.
Police said through further investigation, the vehicle was located abandoned in the RM of Willow Creek. Using information received from the public, the driver was arrested later that night.
Gordon Webb has been charged with operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, failing to remain at the scene of an accident, flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Webb has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on May 22.
