Two Melfort Mustangs players have committed to post-secondary schools.

Loch Morrison will be going to Nova Scotia’s Acadia University, while Evan Plotnik will be going to Massachusetts’ American International College. Both will play for the 2018-19 season.

In 36 games with the Mustangs, Morrison, a defenceman, has 14 goals and 43 points, leading the team in scoring. He is second among all SJHL defencemen.

“He has worked hard and deserves this opportunity to further his academic and hockey career,” said Trevor Blevins, the Mustangs’ head coach, in a media release. “We are very excited and proud to announce that Loch Morrison has made a commitment to Acadia University. He has been an outstanding Melfort Mustang on and off the ice.”

Plotnik, a goalie, has played 88 career games with the Mustangs. In 27 games this season he owns a 18-5-3-1 record. He’s second among SJHL goaltenders with a 0.927 save percentage and has a third best 2.13 goals against average.

“Melfort has offered me the best three years of my life. I really can’t describe how many opportunities it’s led me, and how many experiences I never would have gotten playing somewhere else,” Plotnik said in a media release. “It’s an awesome, tight-knit community and I love how great the community support is here. I’ll never be able to express how much Melfort means to me in words and I wish I could give back to the community as much as they’ve given to me.”
