Another 4-H year for the members of the Eagle Hills 4-H Club is in full swing.
The club has already had two general meetings. At the meetings: the members elected their executive for the year, discussed possible fun days and fundraising.
The club membership has also grown this year from 15 members to at least 23 members. The members have the option of either registering for the Light Horse, Archery or Scrapbooking projects. The number of project leaders has also grown so the club can offer these projects to the members.
The first big event for the club was a trip to Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Alta. Sept. 11-14. The club travelled for the Masters International Tournament. This is a major event for the outdoor horse jumping circuit. There are athletes that compete from England, Ireland, Columbia, United States and Canada. The members were able to tour the impressive grounds and interact with the horses.
The British Army had their tanks on display and informed the members of the different aspects of army life.
There was different competitions the club was able to watch. The main competition was the Nations Cup. This is where six different nations competing. Canada placed number one.
The other major highlight was the kids got to meet Amber Marshall, Amy from the TV series Heartland. She talked to the club and took a picture with the whole group. All the families had a great time.
The club's kick-off event was Sept. 21 at NationsWEST Fieldhouse. All families were invited for pizza and some fun activities on the turf field. The senior members were in charge of planning and running the different games. This is a great way for all people of the club to get together and have fun.
The club had their first fundraiser of the year. The first of three bottle drives was held Sept. 28. The members collected, sorted and bagged bottles. The members worked hard and would like to thank everyone who contributed to the bottle drive.
The club also participated in the Cowboy Harvest Parade Oct. 4. The club had a number of hores riders as well as a team with a wagon. The members decorated the horses and the wagon in fall theme colors. It was a beautiful day and the members had a great time. The club won best group display.
