MELFORT — After taking the job in 2012, Michael Hotsko is retiring from his position as Melfort’s city manager.
Hotsko has worked in local government administration for over three decades.
“I’ve been a town administrator, moving towards the city manager for the last 35 years, I’ve worked in various communities throughout Saskatchewan,” Hotsko said.
The last six years he spent in Melfort.
“It’s been quite good, this is probably one of the best locations I’ve been in. I’ve had great councils to work with over the last six years, I’ve had exceptional staff I’ve worked with over the last six years and together we got a lot of things done I’m proud of.”
One of the things he’s most proud of is Spruce Haven Park.
“I’m happy with that and that’s one of the accomplishments I’m most proud of at the end, for what we’ve done here in the city – development of that park,” Hotsko said.
“It’s just one of those things, one of those developments that are for the city. It’s a development for the city, it’s a recreational opportunity for the city, and it’s a nice skateboard park that we have, a fantastic skateboard park that’s going to draw people to the community here. And we have two soccer pitches in there that will be up and ready for use next year, where there are plans for a spray park and playground areas and it’s a future arena or something or that nature will go in the future there.”
The reason for Hotsko’s retirement is so he can pursue different things.
“For me it’s just time to move on. After 35 years I’ve just decided to move on to different things, to do something different,” Hotsko said.
While he has plans for his retirement, he isn’t open to sharing them yet.
“I’m just looking to pursue other interests right now.”
