In late July, Cut Knife-Turtleford MLA Larry Doke was named vice-president of the Pacific Northwest Economic Region.
The PNWER is a pubic-private nonprofit created in 1991 by representatives from the states of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana and Washington, and the provinces of British Columbia, and Alberta. Saskatchewan joined in 2008.
According to a press release, “the organization is dedicated to encouraging global economic competitiveness and preserving the region’s world-class natural environment. PNWER is recognized by the federal governments of both the United States and Canada as the ‘model’ for regional and bi-national cooperation, due to its proven success.”
Doke was PNWER’s agriculture working group co-chair and Saskatchewan’s executive board representative. He has been with the PNWER for five years. Doke was elected the organization’s vice-president, and will assume PNWER presidency for the 2018-19 year.
Doke was elected to the provincial legislature in 2011, and became Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Highways and Infrastructure in 2014. Doke currently sits on a number of boards relating to economic development.
Before provincial politics, Doke was owner and Operator of Fairview Dodge in North Battleford. He lives in Metinota.
