As COVID-19 variant strains continue infecting people outside the Regina area, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is expanding its mobile testing for the virus to Moose Jaw.
The SHA announced the change late Sunday afternoon.
SHA staff are to test people for COVID-19 in and around Moose Jaw on Monday and Tuesday.
It will “replace previously scheduled drop-in testing,” which will resume Wednesday at 250 Thatcher Drive in that city, the SHA said in a press release.
Over the weekend the provincial government reported 210 new cases of COVID-19 variant strains, 80 of which are outside the Regina area.
Moose Jaw falls into the SHA’s south central infectious area of the province. Data for that region shows 104 variant cases detected by screening, 36 sequenced variant cases and 36 cases identified as the strain originating from the United Kingdom.
The SHA said anybody seeking a COVID-19 test can still book one by calling HealthLine 811 for a referral.
It’s encouraging “everyone to get tested. Getting tested and knowing your status can help protect yourself and those around you.”
The health authority previously told the Leader-Post anyone with a provincial health card, even an expired card, can get a COVID-19 immunization shot.
