Here are some more details on the plane crash that killed two people in North Battleford on Thursday.

Names of the two individuals killed were also released. The pilot was Shane Buchanan, 40, and the passenger was his father, Charles Buchanan, 63. Both are of Whitehorse, Yukon.

Shane was co-owner-operator, with his wife Hanna, of Moon Lake Outfitters, Ltd., of Whitehorse, to which the plane was registered.

The plane was headed to Calling Lake, Alberta as its next destination, with Whitehorse being the ultimate destination.

According to the news release from North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services, the plane itself had crashed about 200 feet from a waterway northwest of the main runway at the Cameron McIntosh Airport. The initial indication from police is that the plane likely took off from the farthest northwest portion of that waterway and flew about 600 feet before crashing.

Transportation Safety Board officials had been expected to arrive on the scene by Friday to conduct the investigation. A blue tarp was placed on the plane to protect the accident scene from the elements.
