The fourth Annual Turtleford Ag Society Summer Cattle Show was held Aug. 10 at the Turtleford Ag. Society Grounds.
There were approximately 110 head of cattle taking part in the one-day show.
Judges for the day were Murray and Derek Westman from Vermilion.
4-H members competed in showmanship to begin the show.
Winners in the junior division were: Toby Noble, Hillmond 4-H Club; Clayton Harland, Paradise Hill 4-H Club; Dakota Prystupa, Manitou Lake Multiple 4-H Club; Amy Carruthers, Paradise Hill 4-H Club.
Winners in the senior division were: Ryley Noble, Hillmond 4-H Club; Bethany Harland, Paradise Hill 4-H Club; Ty Draves, Northminster 4-H Club; Shania Richards, Lashburn 4-H Club.
Ten entries competed in the 4-H heifer class. Grand champion heifer was shown by Chantz Legaarden of the Cut Knife Community Club, reserve heifer was shown by Toby Noble of the Hillmond 4-H Club. Third was Amy Carruthers from the Paradise Hill 4-H Club. Fourth was Ty Draves from the Northminster 4-H Club, fifth was Ryley Noble from the Hillmond 4-H Club and sixth was Devyn Richards from the Lashburn 4-H Beef Club.
In the 4-H cow calf class grand champion was Shania Richards from the Lashburn 4-H Club and reserve champion went to Bethany Harland of the Paradise Hill 4-H Club.
At the conclusion of the 4-H show all 4-H members had their names entered for a cattle blower supplied by Paradise Hill Farm Supply. The lucky winner was Ty Draves from the Northminster 4-H Club. Each member received a $50 gift certificate from either the Turtleford Coop or Paradise Hill Farm Supply.
The Black Diamond Acres Ltd. Pen of Three Commercial Bred Heifers had eight entries. Results were: champion pen, Walter Pollard, Hillmond; reserve pen, Darwin Pollard, Hillmond; third, Brady Pollard, Hillmond; fourth, Kobes Bros., Edam.
In the British two-year-old purebred cow with bull calf at side there were three entries. Winners were: grand champion, Johner Stock Farms, Maidstone; reserve, Stuart Cattle Station, Edam; third, Rick Flicek, Neilburg.
In the European two-year-old purebred cow with bull calf at side there were four entries. Winners were: grand champion, Black Gold Simmentals, Lloydminster; reserve, Little Willow Creek, Frenchman Butte; third, Tyler Farms, Cut Knife; fourth, Kuntz Simmental Farm, Battleford.
In the British mature purebred cow with bull calf at side there were 19 entries. Winners were: grand champion, Standard Hill Livestock, Maidstone; reserve, Stuart Cattle Station, Edam; third, Standard Hill Livestock, Maidstone; fourth Big Gully Farm, Maidstone.
The final class of the day was the European mature purebred cow with bull calf at side with nine entries. Winners were: grand champion, SAJ Simmentals, Edam; reserve, Hoegl Livestock, Lloydminster; third, Tyler Farms, Cut Knife; fourth, Blackgold Simmentals, Lloydminster.
Diamond 7 Meats of Lloydminster donated and prepared the beef that was served at a noon dinner for all competitors and sponsors.
The committee consisting of Randy Noble, Owen Legaarden, Blaine Harland, Harry Lake, Darryl Roach, Jeff Jamieson and Keith LePoudre appreciate the support of the competitors and sponsors for bringing such high quality cattle to the show again this year and would welcome any suggestions regarding improving the show for next year.
The Turtleford Co-op donated the use of their corral panels and supplied the coffee and doughnuts during the show.
