Law enforcement issued 356 tickets last week, including seven charges for impaired driving, during a province-wide traffic safety blitz.

Operation Overdrive, targeting impaired driving, took place May 8 and 9 across the province. It coincided with a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) event in Weyburn, which focused on seatbelt, cellphone and aggressive driving violations in addition to impaired driving.

Combined, Operation Overdrive and the Weyburn STEP event resulted in a total of 356 tickets, including: seven impaired driving charges; 102 seatbelt violations; 34 cellphone violations; 38 speeding violations; 76 stop sign violations; and 99 various other infractions, according to an SGI press release.

The release states, SGI's role in these monthly blitzes is to help raise awareness of key traffic safety issues in the province, with the goal of making our roads safer for all road users.
